Ceiling fans cool PEOPLE (not rooms). In hot weather
operate the fan in the NORMAL direction. This creates a cooling "wind
chill" effect to make you feel 8 degrees cooler. Research has shown that
you can then raise the thermostat setting, resulting in reduced air
conditioning energy consumption of 40% or more. Remember: operating fans
in empty rooms just wastes energy, so turn it off when you leave the
room.
